Prince George area got a preview of upcoming weather system

Residents in Prince George may have woken up to some falling snow, a precursor for what’s to come.

Yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon, a mix of rain and snow fell in the area continuing through the evening and into the morning, seeing around five centimetres of snow.

Environment Canada Meteorologist, Colin Fong says they expect another system to roll though with more snow.

“That will be for tonight and continuing into Friday. During that time for tonight and Friday, we’re expecting upwards of 15 centimetres of snow.”

Fong added the snow will gradually ease into Friday night, ushering in a sharp drop in temperatures, thanks to an arctic system from the north.

He says daytime highs could drop as low as minus 19 by Sunday, noting there will be brisk and gusty winds, creating a concern for frostbite.

Fong cautions anyone heading out this weekend to dress appropriately and keep an eye on the local forecast.

With the drop in daytime highs, and overnight lows reaching the minus 30 range, temperature records aren’t expected to be broken.

More information on the forecast can be found on Environment Canada’s website here.
