Transfer Scholarships help students continue and improve studies in Prince George

10 college students in Prince George are able to grow their studies through the Ike Barber Transfer Scholarship.

The scholarship awards $5,000 to students that are a year into their studies to transfer from college to a university program.

BC Scholarship Society Program Director, Rory Grewar says most of the awarded scholarships in Prince George are for healthcare students.

“In the case of quite a number of the Prince George recipients this year, they are transferring from the College of New Caledonia, and they’re transferring to the University of Northern BC, and most of them are nursing students.”

“That’s the requirement for them to complete their nursing credentials. They need to relocate.”

Grewar added this is the typical number of students transferring in and around Prince George, though some years have been slightly higher.

168 post-secondary students across the province received the scholarship.

The funds are paid directly to the students to use in any way needed, whether that’s for books, food, and tuition.

He says the freedom is there, because they believe the students have the most knowledge and understanding of what their needs are.

Grewar encourages other students to apply for scholarships to help with paying for schooling.

More information on scholarships can be found on the BC Scholarship Society website here.
