Fraser – Fort George approves Trans Mountain Pipeline

The Regional District of Fraser Fort George has finalized an agreement with Kinder Morgan for construction through the Cariboo.

The region has approved “Statutory Right of Way” for the Trans Mountain Pipleine Expansion project.

Chilako River – Nechako Director Lara Beckett was the only board member opposed to the project.

“It adds an enormous risk” said Beckett. “The amount of shipping that this represents from Burnaby into the water is an enormous jump over what is being done right now.”

Beckett says the region should be moving towards more sustainable energy sources.

“Looking at the state of our world, the impacts of climate change, I think in a very global way we need to be moving away from fossil fuels” said Beckett.

Kinder Morgan still hasn’t received approval from the National Energy Board for the project.
