Cross-country skiers to compete in Prince George this weekend

The Teck BC Cup begins this weekend at the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club, bringing together hundreds of cross-country skiers.

Starting at 10:00am tomorrow (Friday), will be the official training for the sprint events, with qualifiers Saturday morning.

Media Liaison, Kevin Pettersen talks about the sprint races happening Saturday.

“There’s lots of action happening in the stadium. There’s heats going out like, every 30 seconds, or every minute maybe.”

“The sprints are kind of nice, because the first one that crosses the line either advances, or if it’s the finals the first one to pass the line wins.”

Sunday is an interval start race, which Pettersen says has competitors race against the clock, and are typically longer races.

Both Saturday and Sunday’s events will begin at 9am, with Saturday expected to be the longer event with more competitors.

The ski club encourages anyone going to not only dress warm, but to bring cowbells to cheer on the racers.

More information about the Teck BC Cup can be found on Caledonia Nordic Ski Club’s website here.
