Spruce Kings make it four straight wins after clipping Nanaimo in OT

Owen Goodbrand picked a great time to come up clutch.

The 20-year-old forward scored the game-winning 3:25 into overtime to give the Prince George Spruce Kings a huge 2-1 victory over the Nanaimo Clippers on Saturday in front of 1,160 fans at the Frank Crane Arena.

PG extended its winning streak to four games and has moved within three points of the Langley Rivermen (17-18-6-1) for the final playoff spot in the Coastal Conference.

To boot, the Rivermen dropped an 8-3 decision at home against the Alberni Valley Bulldogs. Langley hosts Cowichan Valley on Sunday, which will give the Spruce Kings two games in hand.

After a scoreless opening 20 minutes, Mason Loewen netted his 6th of the season from Carter Hesselgrave as the two former Cariboo Cougars gave the Spruce Kings a 1-0 edge.

Less than two minutes later Cole Lonsdale evened the score for the Clippers. His 22nd of the season came on the power-play from Dylan Kinch and Luke Lavery.

Charles-Edward Gravel made 20 stops in net for Prince George who improved to 17-20-3-1.

Nanaimo drops to 21-18-3-0 as Chazz Nixon took the loss in net stopping 25 of 27 Spruce King shots.

PG went 0-for-3 on the man-advantage while the Clippers were 1-for-3.

The Spruce Kings are back in action next Friday and Saturday against the Chilliwack Chiefs (27-8-5-0) from the Kopar Memorial Arena.
