Sixteen space electric vehicle charging hub unveiled in PG

BC Hydro has opened its first electric vehicle fast-charging hub northern BC.

According to the crown corporation, it will provide space for up to 16 electric vehicles to charge at the same time in Prince George.

“This new electric vehicle fast-charging charge hub in Prince George, a first of its kind in northern B.C., continues our work with BC Hydro and other partners to make cleaner options more accessible and affordable for all British Columbians,” said Adrian Dix, Minister of Energy and Climate Solutions.

The PG location can be found in the parking lot of the College of New Caledonia at Highway 97 and 22 Avenue, which features two of the new 350-kilowatt chargers – the highest powered in BC Hydro’s system.

They can provide up to 100-kilometres of driving to an average electric vehicle in about five minutes. The chargers also offer power sharing so two vehicles can charge together on the same unit and receive up to 175-kilowatts each.

In addition, there are also six 180-kilowatt chargers capable of power sharing and providing two vehicles up to 90-kilowatts each.

“British Columbians are embracing electric vehicles faster than any other jurisdiction in Canada and that’s why we are continuing to make investments for growth within our current system and building out our fast-charging network across B.C.,” said Chris O’Riley, President and CEO of BC Hydro.

“These new chargers in Prince George will help support EV adoption and reduce range anxiety throughout northern B.C.”
