Northern Development Board of Directors appoints new CEO

The Northern Development Initiative Trust Board of Directors have found its new CEO after a months-long process.

Ben Campbell, a lifelong resident of Northern BC, will be taking over the roll after holding the Interim CEO position since January 1st, 2025, following the previous CEO, Joel McKay’s departure.

“This organization has a strong legacy of driving economic growth and supporting communities across Northern B.C., and I look forward to working alongside our dedicated team and partners to continue making a meaningful impact.” said Campbell.

In a release, they said he served as Chief Financial Officer since 2021, and in that time has grown various partner programs such as the Connecting British Columbia and Northern Passenger Transportation Service programs.

Campbell also volunteers with the Boards of Community Futures Fraser-Fort George and the College of Complementary Health Professionals, holding the roles of Treasurer and Finance Committee Chair.

“Having served as our CFO, Ben brings deep financial expertise, a strong understanding of our organization, and a passion for supporting northern communities.” said Northern Development Board Chair, Margo Wagner.

“We are confident that under his leadership, Northern Development will continue to drive economic growth and opportunity across the region.”

The Board’s appointment of Campbell to the CEO position is effective immediately.

Robbery report deemed unfounded by Fort St. John RCMP

The Fort St. John RCMP say a report of a robbery in the community was deemed unfounded after Mounties attended.  Police say they received a report of a potential robbery Friday afternoon at a motel in the area of 99A Avenue and 100th Street in Fort St. John, involving a female victim and three male suspect, all with handguns. 

Tour de North riders take part in emotional training ride to honour Shane Kelly

It was an emotional morning in the parking lot of the Prince George Aquatic Centre as the Cops For Cancer Tour de North team took on their first group training ride since the passing of team member Shane Kelly.  Kelly passed away on July 10th due to injuries sustained in a hit-and-run incident.
