A few Prince George area volunteer fire departments will get some money from the province.
This is through the province’s Community Emergency Preparedness Fund, providing over $9 million to support over 130 projects for more than 230 volunteer and composite departments.
Three Prince George area department’s are included, which are:
- Fraser -Fort George Regional District: $511,600 for emergency-response equipment
- Mackenzie: $39,350 for live fire training
- Cluculz Lake: $40,000 for training and equipment
“Securing recognized live fire training is difficult in northern B.C. due to the cost and logistics of attending the training, as the closest facilities are over 10 hours away.” said Joan Atkinson, District of Mackenzie Mayor.
“This funding allows 11 firefighters to complete the required training to become Interior firefighters while meeting requirements for our declared service level, enabling them to better protect the district of Mackenzie.”
Since 2017, more than $26 million has been provided to fire departments through the CEPF for additional equipment and training.
