BC Manufacturing Jobs fund to spur employment creation in the north

Four Prince George-area businesses are receiving a large lump sum of cash from the BC Government to aid in some of their major projects.

It is through the province’s Manufacturing Jobs Fund.

PG’s Open Waters Design and Manufacturing is receiving $450,000 to aid in the development of solar panels used by the marine and transportation sectors.

This project will retrofit their facility with advanced and automated equipment that will allow the company to scale-up their new product line to full commercialization, helping them to expand into new markets while creating 20 full-time jobs.

In addition, Prolenc Manufacturing in PG, which specializes in machine brake links and drill heads for the logging and mining industries is receiving $254,000.

The money is for the purchase and installation of new machinery to enhance operations to meet current demand.

This project will create 2 new jobs in addition to upskilling 12 existing positions.

Mackenzie-based Conifex Forest Prodcuts is being awarded $105,000 to upgrade equipment that will improve tipping and sawing accuracy, increase the quality and efficiency of their lumber production, and reduce downtime among other things.

This project will protect 159 jobs.

Lastly, Bid Group Technologies out of Vanderhoof is getting $100,000 to increase manufacturing capacity at their facility by replacing two manual lathes to enable them to reduce outsourcing and optimize parts production.
