Capitals drop close shave to Comets in Game 1 of U18 Female AAA final

The Northern Capitals did everything but score against the top-ranked Greater Vancouver Comets.

A power-play goal from Rowan Brooke Hu turned out to be the difference maker for the Comets who walked away with a tight-checking 1-0 win on Friday, taking a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three BC Elite Hockey League U18 Female AAA Final.

The Capitals best chance in the third came off the stick of affiliate player Maddy Niesh but was turned aside point-blank by Comets goalie Alexandra Johnston.

Payton Planetta made 33 saves in defeat for the visitors who must win Game 2 on Saturday to go the distance against Greater Vancouver.

The Comets outshot the Capitals 34-20 overall.

Puck drop is set for at 5:45 pm from Planet Ice in Coquitlam.
