The Elders in Residence Program at UNBC has had a productive first week.
The program brings first nations’ elders to live on campus for a week and share their knowledge with students and faculty.
Lheidli T’enneh Elders Robert and Edie Frederick were the first to take part in the project, lecturing to students and faculty.
“I’ve been giving class lectures on Lheidli history, language and land” said Elder Edie Frederick. “Basically teaching them about who the Lheidli are.”
“There’s nothing written in textbooks about Lheidli, whatever’s out there is very little” said Frederick. “I feel it’s very important that people get to know who we are and what our history is.”
The Elders in Residence Program is funded by the BC Governments Aboriginal Service Plan.
