PG RCMP issue Winter Driving Reminder

With the first few inches of snow falling early this morning, Prince George RCMP are reminding drivers to make sure their vehicles are ready for winter.

Police are asking drivers to stay alert and slow down as the changing conditions require more focus while on the road.

“Our hope of course is that everyone has winter tires on already” said Cpl. Craig Douglas. “We know that’s not reality. There are certainly people who haven’t got around to doing that yet”

He says it’s a good idea for drivers to keep a winter survival kit in their cars and to allow extra travel time in case of delays.

“Have an emergency kit in your vehicle of blankets, first aid kit, flashlights and those sorts of things in case you do get stuck in some snow” said Douglas. “It might be a little while before help can get there.”

Police say the poorer driving conditions put extra demands on vehicles to perform in the harsher weather, resulting in more collisions in the colder months.
