With Talktober meetings all wrapped up, it’s time for the City to take its findings into next month’s budget discussions.
Over six meetings, PG residents were able to talk about civic matters, lighting, recreation, proposed bylaws, and problems unique to each area of town.
Mayor Lynn Hall says he has a better idea of what people want after the meetings.
“Lighting was a great example in some of our major streets like Foothills, Tyner Boulevard, the need for us to provide things like a skateboard park in the Hart, what amenities we are providing to certain areas of the communities… Like playgrounds, parks, and trail systems.”
With many secondary roads running through their area, bike lanes and a Council investigation into the abuse of lanes was a hot topic for the people of the West Bowl.
The spirited discussion encouraged members of Council, and reaffirms that the meetings will be back in the future.
“Early on, as I said in my campaign, it was all about reconnection to the City, and Council is certainly on board with that. Quite often things just occur out of a conversation, and here we are today,” added Hall. “We’ve had great turnout at all six meetings. Next year we’ll maybe add a little twist, but still get out into the community. Even tonight, a lady asked if we’d consider coming up to Cranbrook Hills, because they have different issues. It could be as simple as going to the neighbourhood with some City staff and Council, and having a question and answer period.”
Residents are hopeful their talks could lead to something concrete, as the City is already hosting planning sessions for the Hart’s new skatepark.
Findings will be worked into the City’s upcoming budget deliberations, strategic priorities, and the City’s Corporate Plan for 2016.
