RCMP October Road Checks lead to 500 Tickets

North District Traffic Services is releasing numbers from their October Road Checks.

Throughout the month local RCMP partnered with WorkSafe BC and the Ministry of Transportation to conduct a vehicle inspection blitz.

“Basically what we were doing was we were making sure the vehicles were road-worthy and safe to be operating” said Sergeant Al Steinhauser. “With Winter coming into effect, we wanted to make sure people are ready with their vehicles to be operated safely.”

98 tickets were handed out for illegal head lights and 143 tickets for other offences including driving without a licence and operating a defective vehicle.

“We did take a number of vehicles of the road that were totally unsafe to be on the road including large commercial vehicles” said Steinhauser. “The majority of people that we dealt with were very positive and then the ones that were stopped and issued violation tickets understood the reason for it.”

More than 500 violation tickets were handed out during October in Vanderhoof, Quesnel and Prince George.
