Cause of UHNBC electrical problems discovered

Officials believe they have found the source of the power troubles at UHNBC.

Spokesman Jonathon Dyck says the problem appears to be a switch on the electrical system.

“What the switch does is transfer power from if we go from BC Hyrdo power to a generator. This occurred during one of our monthly tests. It’s not an ideal situation, but it’s good that we found it now rather than in an emergency situation.”

The partial power outage also took down the Northern Health network, halting all elective surgeries scheduled for today.

Most surgeries have already been rescheduled, and people are still asked to avoid the hospital unless it’s an emergency.

“We are working hard to see what we can get back online for tomorrow, and we believe that elective surgeries should be available.” Dyck said “But we do recognize that there could be a few systems we will have to double check in the morning.”
