PG Sports—Weekend Wrap–Nov 13-15

After winning twice at home on Friday and Saturday against the Edmonton Oil Kings 4-2 and 6-1, the Prince George Cougars got trampled on Sunday in Kamloops as the Blazers posted a 9-1 triumph. The Blazers scored three times in each period to run their season record against Prince George to 3-0. The 10-8-1 Cougars continue a 4-game road trip Wednesday in Calgary, Friday in Lethbridge and Saturday in Medicine Hat before home action at CN Centre November 27th and 28th against Kamloops. The Blazers have outscored the Cougars 20-4 in the three head to head match-ups.

–The Prince George Spruce Kings ended a five game losing skid with a 4-2 victory over the last place Surrey Eagles. The Eagles have lost 11 in a row. Earlier on the weekend, P.G. fell 4-1 Saturday in Chilliwack and 2-1 Friday in Wenatchee. The 6-16-0-2 Spruce Kings host (12-8-0-2) West Kelowna on Wednesday and will also entertain (15-5-2-1) Salmon Arm Saturday and (12-10) Powell River Sunday. The Spruce Kings are seven points behind the Coquitlam Express for the 4th and final playoff spot in the BCHL Mainland Division and Coquitlam holds two games in hand.

–The Major Midget Cariboo Cougars posted a 4-3 victory Sunday and a 2-2 tie Saturday against the Vancouver North West Giants. The 11-4-1 Giants and the 11-4-1 Valley West Hawks, along with the 10-5-3 Cougars, are all tied for first place in the BCMML with 23 points, although the Giants and Hawks have two games in hand on Cariboo. The Cougars are idle until they host the Okanagan Rockets on Saturday, Nov. 28th (4:30 p.m.) and Sunday, Nov. 29th (9:15 a.m.) at Kin 1.

–The Northern Capitals female midget triple A hockey team won all three home games against the Fraser Valley Rush: 3-1 Friday, 1-0 Saturday and 4-2 Sunday. The 7-3-2 Capitals visit the Vancouver Island Seals in Victoria Friday night at 6, Saturday afternoon at 4 and Sunday morning at 9. The Caps next home games are scheduled against the last place Kootenay Wild on December 4th (6:45 p.m. at Kin 1), 5th (4:30 p.m. at Kin 1) and the 6th (8:15 a.m. at CN Centre).

–The PGSS Polars skunked Robert Bateman of Abbotsford 19-0 in the first round of the B.C. High School Football Association Sr. Double A varsity playoffs in Kamloops. The Polars are the first varsity team from the Northern Conference to win a
provincial playoff game. PGSS advances to the next round against the Carson Graham Eagles of North Vancouver Friday in Kamloops. Carson Graham is ranked 5th in the province.

–In junior varsity playoff Provincial football action, Duchess Park beat Vernon 25-17 and Westsyde of Kamloops outscored PGSS 60-52. Duchess will meet Mission Friday in the quarter-finals.

–The UNBC Timberwolves are 1-3 in the men’s division and 0-4 in women’s play in Canada West basketball. The UNBC men split a pair in Kelowna against the UBCO Heat (64-48 victory followed by a 78-57 loss) while the Lady Timberwolvers lost both to UBCO
(67-61 and 70-49). The Timberwolves host the Fraser Valley Cascades Friday night at 6 and 8 and Saturday evening at 5 and 7 in their final home league games of 2015. The Fraser Valley men are 4-0 and the Fraser Valley women sit 2-2.
