B.C.’s men’s softball team is off to a good start at the Canada Summer Games from St. John’s Newfoundland.
After dropping its opener, 4-2 to Nova Scotia, the team responded with 2-1 and 12-11 victories over Newfoundland and Labrador and Manitoba.
Nick Neid threw 20 strikeouts in defeat during his first outing on the pitcher’s mound but roared right back with another 24 strikeouts in the nail-biting win over the host Newfies.
PG’s Joel Henry and Cameron Jefferies led the way offensively against Manitoba registering a combined five RBI’s.
B.C. scored five-runs in the fourth followed by three more in the fifth to put themselves in the driver’s seat during their third game of the day.
B.C. is 2-1 with games today (Thursday) against Alberta and New Brunswick.
Elsewhere at the Summer Games, the women’s volleyball team for B.C. sits at 1-1.
After losing 3-1 against Ontario (25-22, 23-25, 10-25 and 15-25), the girls quickly bounced back with a 3-1 victory of their own against Nova Scotia.
B.C. lost the first set 25-20 before rattling off the final three taking them by margins of 25-17, 25-23 and 25-23.
Their final round robin game is today (Thursday) against Alberta (2-0).

In addition, Caleb Emon of Prince George is off to Saturday’s final in men’s high jump after recording a mark of 1.93m in qualification.
Brooke Perepeluk also punched her ticket to the medal final in the 100m Wheelchair Women’s category.
She tallied 59 points during prelims and qualified in the top 5.
B.C. currently sits third in the medal standings with 75 (28 gold, 17 and 30 bronze).
