Cougars Challenge Students with “Read to Succeed”

The Prince George Cougars are endorsing Exercise and Literacy at local elementary schools with a new program called “Read to Succeed”.

Today the team visited Southridge Elementary to talk about the importance of daily reading and physical activity.

“We want our team to be more than just a hockey team, we want to be a important part of what makes Prince George a great place” said Cougars’ Vice President of Business Andy Beesley. “Part of that is supporting the educational system and the goals that the teachers are working so hard on.”

At the end of the assembly, the players challenged students to spend an extra 30 minutes per day reading and exercising for the next 2 weeks.

The students will be rewarded at the end of the program with a special Cougars game.

“We’re going to give every single student a free ticket, we’re going to give their teachers all free tickets and the idea is that we want to celebrate literacy and physical activity” said Beesley.

The team will be visiting 4 other elementary schools in Prince George to issue the same challenge.
