Striking public service workers are set to escalate job action in their fight for a new contract.
According to the B.C. General Employees Union, President Paul Finch will be outlining the next phases during a rally in Surrey this morning (Monday).
The BCGEU’s public service bargaining unit represents more than 34,000 members.
Negotiations between the BCGEU and the BC Public Service Agency (PSA) began on January 22, 2025, but broke down on in July.
On August 29th, the union issued 72-hour strike notice following a strike authorization vote in which 92.7% of members voted in favour of job action.
Public service members began strike action last week including over 260 members in Prince George who hit the picket lines.
