City Council to discuss e-scooter pilot project

Prince George City Council will be taking a look at an electric kick scooters pilot project.

At this week’s meeting, taking place on Wednesday, City Council will discuss a report on the pilot project, which is being put on by the Province.

An initial three-year pilot was conducted and ended in April of last year, and is being followed by a four-year program that will run until April 2028.

“Although the pilot focuses exclusively on e-kick scooters, the finding may be applicable to other forms of micro-mobility and could inform future projects,” the report states.

“The results may also identify potential amendments to the Motor Vehicle Act to support the safe and efficient integration of micro-mobility devices within public roadways.”

Council will vote on consenting to taking part in the pilot project, as well as directing City Administration to prepare bylaw amendments to Highways Bylaw No. 8065, 2008 by adding the definition of ‘E-Scooter’ to accommodate the project.

Other items to be discussed on Wednesday includes options for a shelter for the Little Prince, and a report on public washroom access downtown.

The full agenda for Wednesday’s meeting can be found here.
