Prince George’s Terry Fox Run brings in $16,000 and counting

Hundreds of Prince George residents put shoes to pavement for the 45th Annual Terry Fox Run this morning (Sunday) in Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park.

“We have made it bigger and better this year,” said Organizer Sylvia Masich.

“We’ve got drinks courtesy of Open Door, thanks to Selen Alpay from Canadian Tire, we have cookies, we have a book raffle thanks to Shirley Bond, lots of people coming in.”

Masich’s grandfather started the Prince George to Boston Marathon, which Terry Fox ran in 1979.

“It was after his run here in Prince George that he knew he was ready to run across Canada, which is an incredible connection just for Prince George to have to Terry Fox,” she said.

“You’re going to actually be running in his footsteps while you’re on Patricia Boulevard, and when you’re running down Taylor Drive and through the park, which you can’t say that for many runs across Canada, that you’re actually actively running through his footsteps.”

Since Masich took over in 2023, attendance has been increasing.

“I think pre-registers were about 200 people, we already crushed last year’s fundraising, and that was just with online donations, that doesn’t even count what’s come in today, with the registrants, with the hot cash donations,” she said.

Prior to the start of the run, the total raised was nearing $16,000, and has since surpassed that mark.

Donations can still be made here.
