The Province is trying to help end racism in Prince George.

The Immigrant and Multicultural Services Society has received $10,000 from the BC Government to support their anti-racism initiatives.

“To eliminate racism. That’s the goal.”said Executive Director Baljit Sethi. “If there is any racism people have, we will arrange some programs and functions where they will have the opportunity to meet people from different cultures and they will develop more understanding about newcomers.”

According to Sethi, numerous Prince George residents are eager to support newcomers to the community.

“Since morning I was so busy answering back phone calls” said Sethi. “They are anxious to sponsor Syrian refugees and then we already have Iraqi refugees and other people.”

The Immigration and Multicultural Services Society is one of 14 organizations in the province participating in the Organizing Against Racism and Hate program.
