Opportunistic Cascades slip past UNBC MSOC

Mateo Brazinha showed the UNBC Timberwolves once again why he is the reigning Canada West Player of the Year.

The veteran striker scored twice in a 3-1 victory this afternoon (Friday) over the Timberwolves at Masich Place Stadium.

Michael Beecroft opened the scoring for the Cascades in the 20th minute as a well placed ball by Mondo Abay changed direction and found its way into the back of the goal past UNBC netminder Yanni Ntapas.

Brazinha made it 2-0 ten minutes later knocking home a loose ball inside the box following a free kick off the boot of defender Adam Szymanski.

UNBC clawed back with a goal of their own in the second half as a hand ball by Fraser Valley inside the box resulted in a penalty kick.

Mark Talisuna made no mistakes on Cascades goalie Matheus De Sousa trimming the deficit to 2-1.

However, some quick transition by the Cascades snuffed out any hope of a comeback as a back heal pass by Kevin Mailand found Brazinha who notched his ninth of the season.

With the loss, the Timberwolves fall to 3-5-2 while Fraser Valley improves to 5-1-2.

Both teams play tomorrow (Saturday) at noon from Masich Place Stadium.
