Exploration Place sees membership spike after opening of new gallery

A new Explorations Gallery is being celebrated by the Exploration Place in PG.

According to the museum, it’s a bright, hands-on space that brings science and play together for visitors of all ages.

Plans for the gallery began last year, and marked the return of interactive, kid-focused exhibits.

“We heard from our visitors that they missed the hands-on experiences that defined The Exploration Place for so many years,” said Alyssa Leier, Executive Director.

“This project is our response. Seeing families fill the space again and hearing the laughter and excitement—it’s exactly what we hoped for.”

Visitors will be able to experiment with the giant pin wall, watch scarves soar through the air-tube maze, design with light on the pixel peg wall, and follow motion through the new kinetic ball machine.

Legacy items like the loop-de-loop and Gravitram from the museum’s former Children’s Gallery have also returned.

Since opening the new gallery, The Exploration Place has seen a spike in attendance and membership sales.

Between May and October, the museum recorded a nearly 10% increase in visitation and a 14% increase in overall revenue compared to the same period in 2024.

“This project is great for Prince George, but it also helps us in a big way,” said Leier. “It reconnected us with our community and strengthened the museum’s sustainability. People see that their feedback shaped these changes, and responding to that feedback has been a win-win for everyone.”
