Environment Canada says 2015 was the warmest on record in Prince George.
Meteorologist, Lisa Coldwells says the daily mean temperature rose significantly.
“The Prince George area ended up with a mean temperature of 6.5. If we look at the average mean temperature over the past 30 years that would come out to 5.3 degrees.”
UNBC Environmental Science Professor, Dr. Stephen Dery says thanks to El Nino and Climate change the city may see more thunderstorms in the future and that the -30 temperatures experienced during the winter months may become a thing of the past.
Dery adds the recent El Nino spell has not been positive for one specific area.
“Since we have not had those cold temperatures the Mountain Pine Beetle has expanded across the province which has a detrimental effect on our forests.”
It has been reported 2016 could be even warmer on record than 2015.
