The society behind the Baldy Hughes Therapeutic Farm and Addiction Centre outside of Prince George has received a massive donation from a Vancouver based real estate group.
TEG Master Partnership presented the 3.6 million dollar cheque Thursday in Vancouver.
The group, made up of 3,200 BC-based clients, donated a portion of a recent sale of assets in Texas to the BC Hope Recovery Society, resulting in one of the largest single corporate donations in recent BC history.
Baldy Hughes Executive Director Rodger Travale says $3M of the money will be invested, giving the BC Hope Recovery Society steady indefinite cash flow.
“And then immediately, they’ve already realized things like they bought a new tractor for our farm or new furniture. Things that were really quite needed, I mean we are talking about a 1952 military base that needs quite a bit of work. So there’s immediate return on some of that money, as well as a long term investment,”
He added that the money will help with new education for the staff, new gym equipment as well as a major expansion of their agriculture programs and greenhouses.
Travale says the steady funding provided by the investment of the donation each year is extraordinarily valuable. Although BC Hope Recovery Society has strong partnerships with the BC Government and BC Housing, they still rely on grants and private donations to keep the doors open. The facility costs about 2 million dollars a year to run.
“We just love the relationship Prince George has had with Baldy Hughes, and even the people across the province now” Travale said “This has become a real provincial resource and it’s a real provincial donation and I think it speaks to how many families we connect across the province.”
