Cougars improve to 7-0-0-1 in last 8 home games

The Prince George Cougars jumped out to a 3-0 lead and then held on for a 3-2 victory over the Portland Winterhawks before 2,268 fans. The Cats extended their home point streak to eight games going 7-0-0-1. Jesse Gabrielle tallied once and set up the game winner by Josh Anderson at 11:38 of the third. Aaron Boyd scored just 2:46 into the game as Prince George led 2-0 after both the first and second periods. Ty Edmonds made 31 saves as P.G. outshot Portland 38-33. The 14-9-0-1 Cougars and the 12-12 Winterhawks meet again tonight at 7 at CN Centre.

–Two other games in the WHL Tuesday: Kamloops whipped Kootenay 5-1 and Victoria got by Medicine Hat 3-1. The Cougars are 3rd in the B.C. Division, three points ahead of Kamloops and eight points back of Victoria.

–10 WHL players, but none from the PG Cougars, have been invited to CANADA’S NATIONAL JUNIOR TEAM SELECTION CAMP Dec 10-14 in Toronto. A total of 30 players were chosen for the camp, including two forwards each from the Kelowna Rockets and the Brandon Wheat Kings.

–The PG Coast Inn Midget Tier 1 Cougars dominated their own seven team tournament going 5-0 and outscoring their opponents by a combined 34-3 margin. They dumped the Okanagan Hockey Academy Edmonton
prep team 5-1 in the final for their 4th tournament win of the season. (Round robin victories were 8—0 over Chilliwack, 9-0 over North Shore, 5-0 over Fort St John and 7-2 over Seafair). The Coast Inn midgets are entered in the major midget division of a tournament in Richmond Dec 26-31.
