Relay for Life doubling down on community with its return to PG

Relay for Life is returning to Prince George after a few year hiatus, but will have more community ties.

Director of Logistics Victoria Bleeker got the ball rolling to bring back the the Canadian Cancer Society fundraiser, by bringing in people from the UNBC Pre-Med students Association and Stem Cell Club.

Part of the reason for the relay’s absence was a cut in funding, but to work around that, Bleeker said they’ve been working with the City and local sponsors.

“We’ve really been leaning on local sponsorships. We’re really focusing on that community driven sponsorship of this event to cover our costs.”

“In terms of logistics on how we we’re able to secure Masich, we worked really closely with the City to come up with a plan.”

Bleeker said they’re aiming for the relay to be a yearly community experience to showcase how unique the City is, but would need continued support from the community and a team behind it.

Relay for Life will be taking place at Masich Place Stadium from Saturday, June 27th at 8:30 a.m. until the 28th, ending at 10:00 a.m.

More information about the relay, where to donate, and to register a team can be found on their Facebook page or website.
