PG Kodiaks football team issues statement on its restructuring

The Prince George Kodiaks organization has broken its silence on its ongoing internal changes and restructuring.

“We recognize this process has raised many questions,” said interim General Manager Ryan Bellamy.

“As we navigate our way forward, the incoming leadership aims to provide transparency with our communication. We appreciate the patience shown by our athletes, coaches, families, fans and the broader community during this time.”

In late February, Jamie Boreham was “dismissed” as the Head Coach of the Kodiaks, after winning the BC Football Conference Coach of the Year award and leading the team to a program best 5-4-1 record, as well as the team’s first ever post-season appearance.

“We appreciate Jamie’s dedication to the athletes, the community, the development of the program, and we recognize the professionalism he demonstrated throughout this transition,” Bellamy said.

The organization says the decision to begin restructuring was not taken lightly.

“The board considered a range of factors related to the long-term health and direction of the program, including responsibilities that extended beyond on-field results in the Canadian Junior Football League,” a news release from the team said.

“These considerations included the broader scope of the Director of Football Operations role and the long-term future of football initiatives connected to the Kodiaks organization.”

The release also said “as the process unfolded and feedback was received from key partners, it became clear that change was necessary.”

On March 6, President Craig Briere, Vice President Ken Newell, and Treasurer Chipman Purdey all resigned from their positions.

According to the team, the next step in the Kodiak’s transition will take place at the club’s annual general meeting, scheduled for 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25th at 556 North Nechako Road.

The club says attendance at the AGM is open to everyone, and anyone whishing to vote must complete an individual membership form and submit a $10 membership fee prior to the start of the meeting.
