Arnason’s third period heroics give Spruce Kings road win against Langley

Even with nothing on the line, the Prince George Spruce Kings found a way to come out on top.

River Arnason’s game-winner at 12:48 of the third helped the BCHL’s most northern franchise down the Langley Rivermen on Friday by a 3-2 score from the George Preston Memorial Arena.

Both teams traded goals in the first period courtesy of Zachary Benayon (Langley) and Mason Loewen (Spruce Kings) to make it a 1-1 game after the opening 20.

Carter Hesselgrave of Quesnel potted his 23rd of the campaign as he buried a feed from Ben Vreugdenhil on the power-play to make 2-1.

Langley pushed back again in the third courtesy of newly acquired import Reinis Auzins who solved Spruce Kings netminder Cody Arnold.

The Rivermen outshot PG by a 35-27 margin. The Spruce Kings were 1-for-1 on the power-play while Langley was 0-for-3.

Arnold made 33 saves in the win for the visitors.

Prince George improves to 33-17-3-0 while the Rivermen drop to 27-25-1-0. Both teams begin round one of the Fred Page Cup Playoffs April 3 and 4th from the Kopar Memorial Arena.

The Spruce Kings end the regular season Sunday against the Surrey Eagles (8-39-6-0).
