Council supports application for evacuation route planning grant

Prince George City Council approved submitting a grant application to the Union of B.C. Municipalities (UBCM) at last night’s (Monday) meeting.

Specifically, the grant is focused on components related to evacuation route planning for $40,000, and would support the finalization of the City’s Evacuation Response Plan.

According to Director of Administrative Services Eric Depeneau, this grant would help the City look at site-specific evacuation plans for neighbourhoods in the City, public notification templates, and some over-arching planning.

“Things that we contemplate are if we had to use both lanes over the bridge to the north, as an example, you know, how can we change the traffic pattern to enable that greater flow of traffic, those kind of nuances,” he explained.

Council unanimously supported applying for the grant.
