School District 57 Trustees were given an update on the strategic plan during Tuesday’s public board meeting.
The update, provided by Superintendent Jameel Aziz, was presented following a public survey that was released before spring break, garnering nearly 900 responses.
Aziz said they’re starting to set up engagement group meetings between Roots and Rivers and other groups.
“As well, there are opportunities for rural presentations.”
“So the principles in Valemount, Mackenzie and McBride have basically contacted, I’m going to say select community members I would assume, to be part of focus groups connecting with Roots and Rivers around the needs in those particular communities.”
Aziz said they’ve also reached out to post-secondary schools and two business sectors to ensure to ensure they get their input.
Most of the work is aimed to be completed by the end of May, with the Board meeting in June to finalize the plan to be put in place by the end of their tenure in the fall.
Other items discussed at the meeting include the 2026-27 Capital Bylaw, and a look at the draft 2026-27 annual budget.
