Enbridge’s Sunrise Expansion project to employ 1,400 construction workers in PG area

The Prince George area stands to benefit from Ottawa’s approval of Enbridge’s Sunrise Expansion Program that was given the green light.

In the Fraser-Fort George District, 1,400 construction workers are expected to be hired during the peak period.

Roughly half (700 workers), who will be working on the project north of McLeod Lake, of the temporary work force accommodations will be set up in Mackenzie and Pine Pass areas.

The remainder will be using local accommodations, restaurants and services, benefitting local businesses.

“We are pleased with the approval of the Sunrise Expansion Program. This marks an important milestone for a critical energy infrastructure project that will help to ensure energy affordability and security.”

“This multi-year project has required hundreds of thousands of work hours to reach this stage, including design, environmental studies and engagement work with Indigenous and local communities. These efforts have strengthened and made the project better, and we remain committed to ongoing collaboration throughout this Project’s construction and operation phases.” said Ali Hendi, Enbridge Director of Projects and Sunrise Expansion Program Project Lead.

The Project is targeted to be completed by the end of 2028.

Once operational, this expansion Project will add 300 million cubic feet per day of natural gas transportation capacity to the pipeline system.
