Suspect arrested by 100 Mile House RCMP investigating Deka Lake fire

100 Mile House RCMP have determined a structure fire in the Deka Lake area was deliberately set.

On Saturday night (April 25) police were called to the area around 11:30.

According to the RCMP, investigators examined the scene, gathered physical evidence, and conducted neighbourhood enquiries which led to the identification of a suspect.

Police said the suspect was arrested and remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing.

“The evidence collected was critical in identifying and arresting a suspect,” 100 Mile House RCMP Sgt Brian Lamb said in a news release, “and we’re pleased with the progress made so far. Arson investigations are complex, and the work done by members in this case reflects a high level of professionalism and commitment to community safety.”

Lamb added although an arrest has been made, the investigation is ongoing and we are continuing to work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the fire.

Anyone who witnessed suspicious activity, has information, or may have dash camera or video footage from the Deka Lake area is asked to contact the 100 Mile House RCMP.
