The Alternate Approval Process (AAP) has been launched by the City of Prince George to seek resident approval to borrow $30 million for five capital projects.
In February, City Council authorized using the AAP to seek funding from the Municipal Finance Authority for:
- CN Centre Building envelope renewal – $15.86 million
- Civic facilities roof replacements – $2.45 million
- Memorial Park cemetery expansion – $5.15 million
- Equipment financing – $4 million
- Stormwater system renewal – $2.5 million
Through the AAP, if ten per cent or more of the total number of electors within the City submit a valid elector response form by the deadline, Council may not proceed with adoption of the loan authorization bylaw.
A staff report presented to Council at the February 23 regular meeting states the total number of registered voters within the City of Prince George as of January 21, 2026 is 57,667, according to Elections BC.
Elector response forms are available on the City’s website and at City Hall.
Completed forms can be submitted in person at City Hall, by mail, email (cityclerk@princegeorge.ca), or fax (250-561-0183) by June 2 at 5 p.m.
According to the City, the AAP process is more cost effective than a referendum.
A referendum would cost around $120,000, while AAP costs are absorbed within existing business unit budgets.
