How low can it go?
That’s the question regarding Prince George’s unemployment rate after it dipped to 3.0 percent in April after it was 4.6 in March according to Stats Canada.
Labour Analyst, Julian Alvarez told MyPGNow.com the drop also meant good news for the amount of people working.
“The number of employed people increased by two thousand. There is currently 58,000 people employed in Prince George and that also represents a yearly increase of eight thousand when compared to April of last year.”
As for B.C., it remains in the middle of the pack with an unemployment rate of 6.8 percent, the fifth lowest among the provinces.
Alvarez explained what seems to be plaguing the provincial job market.
“For BC, we saw a decrease of around six thousand employees in the wholesale and retail trade, accommodation and food services and we are seeing this when compared to March is where we saw the largest decreases among the industries in B.C.”
Canada’s unemployment rate rose to 6.9 percent, a slight hike when compared to March (6.7).
