An employee with the City of Quesnel has been charged and there are extra security measures in place at two city locations today.
North District RCMP Media Liaison Dave Tyreman says police aren’t releasing a lot of information at this time. “I can confirm that on Monday the 21st around 10:30am, we received a complaint involving a city employee but currently the matter is before the court so we can’t provide any more information at this time.”
Tyreman says RCMP believe that this was an isolated incident and that the public is not at risk.
Court documents show that Krishan Jassal has been charged with one count of Uttering Threats.
The information sworn in court yesterday says that Jassal threatened to cause death and bodily harm to his supervisors at the City of Quesnel. His next court appearance will be on January 19th.
Quesnel Mayor Bob Simpson confirmed extra security measures are in place at City Hall and the landfill.
We asked Simpson if what has been going on in the world over the past few years has any bearing on what he calls “an abundance of caution”
“Absolutely, there is no such thing as an idle threat anymore. Any employer has to take any statements made by employees with a degree of seriousness that we may not have taken in the past.”
Simpson says it is simply the world we live in now.
On the incident itself, Simpson says they are dealing with an internal personnel matter that caused some personal safety concerns for city staff.
He says it’s fortunate City staff now have a Christmas break, and he feels that coming out of it they will be able to go back to normal operations at the city.
