Cyclists of all ages will be taking part in the Terry Fox Ride of Hope on Sunday, supporting the Terry Fox Foundation.
This is the first time the Ride of Hope is happening Prince George.
“A few of us in town here put our names forward and it fell to me to sort of kick this off with our inaugural event this year, hoping that it will become an annual event and will grow as we get more awareness and more cyclists out on the gravel,” said Organizer Neil Hodgson.
The ride starts at 11:00 a.m. at Tano Fuel in Shelley, and welcomes recreational riders and experienced cyclists looking for a challenge.
“You would leave Shelley and you would go up the Beaver FSR, all the way up to Upper Fraser Road, and then you head south on Upper Fraser Road, and then you turn west onto East Shelley Road, and that brings you back down into Shelley,” Hodgson said.
The course features rolling gravel roads, with aid stations available every 23 kilometres. All bikes are welcome, bikes with a minimum tire width of 30 millimetres are recommended.
Participants can also choose the experience that best suits them:
- Complete one 23 km lap,
- Ride multiple laps within four hours,
- Form a relay team with friends and take turns riding throughout the event.
The Terry Fox Ride of Hope started in 2015, marking the 35th anniversary of the Marathon of Hope.
Since them the Ride of Hope has raised more than $2.25 million for Cancer Research.
With it being the first year of the ride in Prince George, Hodgson said there’s a fundraising goal of $5,000.
