Rustad goes to bat for new Conservatives leader after sharp criticism from Eby

“We have a vision on improving lives in this province.”

That’s from Nechako Lakes MLA John Rustad after Kerry-Lynne Findlay was named the new leader of the Conservative Party of BC beating out Caroline Elliott with 51 percent of the vote.

Rustad took issue with Premier David Eby’s comments calling Findlay’s style divisive – however Rustad believes its Eby’s current platform that has driven a wedge among residents.

“It has created huge issues right across the province. That is why the Conservatives have a 10 point lead right now, so we wanted to take advantage of that but also we want to show the province of British Columbia, a vision for how we will be able to deliver in this province that will bring people together.”

“David Eby is in a very tough spot. Obviously, his ranking in the polls are dropping rapidly and people are very upset with his agenda. And talk about a divisive agenda, David Eby and what he has been doing with his ideology and activisms is dividing our province.”

The former leader of the provincial Tories admitted while leadership races can often split parties into different camps, he is confident the new leader can bring people together.

“The leadership races in its general nature are very divisive because people want this person or that person and you get in-fighting that goes on. Now that’s over and is the time to put all that aside and bring everybody together.”

Rustad added Findlay will use the summer to meet with her MLA’s and shore up her shadow cabinet.

One of the first orders of business will be to find a place for Findlay to run as a candidate to get her elected into Victoria.
