Nechako White Sturgeon Conservation Centre holding latest release event Friday

Over 900 school-aged children and some dignitaries are releasing the latest crop of Nechako White Sturgeon into the Nechako River.

The event takes place on Friday at Riverside Park in Vanderhoof as each student will have the opportunity to release a salmon fry and as a group, will see off the 63 juvenile white sturgeon into the river.

The sturgeons are produced each spring and are raised at the Nechako White Sturgeon Conservation Centre over two winters to allow them to grow.

The last edition of this event was back in 2024.

Vanderhoof Mayor Kevin Moutray will be among those in attendance.
