Prince George City Council can now move ahead with borrowing funds for some projects following the closure of the alternative approval process. (AAP)
In February, Prince George City Council authorized using the AAP to gain elector assent to seek funding from the Municipal Finance Authority for:
- CN Centre Building envelope renewal – $15.86 million
- Civic facilities roof replacements – $2.45 million
- Memorial Park cemetery expansion – $5.15 million
- Equipment financing – $4 million
- Stormwater system renewal – $2.5 million
Through the AAP, if ten per cent or more of the total number of electors within the City submit a valid elector response form by the deadline, Council may not proceed with adoption of the loan authorization bylaw.
A staff report presented to Council at the February 23 regular meeting states the total number of registered voters within the City of Prince George as of January 21, 2026 is 57,667, according to Elections BC, meaning 5,767 elector response forms were needed.
This process was opened in late-April, and closed on Monday. (June 2)
According to a staff report to be presented to City Council at Monday’s meeting, all five of the AAPs did not receive enough elector response forms:
- CN Centre Building envelope renewal – 226 elector response forms
- Civic facilities roof replacements – 135
- Memorial Park cemetery expansion – 138
- Equipment financing – 135 (not including eight invalid forms submitted)
- Stormwater system renewal – 128
Council can now consider final reading and adoption for these loan authorization bylaws. These will be considered at Monday’s meeting.
Also on the agenda for Monday’s meeting is a bid for the 2029 or 2030 55+ BC Games, and an RCMP Bi-Annual Review.
The full agenda for Monday’s meeting can be found here.
