PG soccer fans ready to get into the World Cup spirit with trio of watch parties

Prince George will be getting its first dose of World Cup Fever.

The city is hosting its first of three watch parties tomorrow (Thursday) at the Prince George Soccer Association Clubhouse on George Paul Lane as Canada takes on Qatar at 3pm.

Civic Facilities and events coordinator, Diane Bilodeau told MyPGNow.com everyone involved is extremely pleased to be hosting.

“I have to say that we are really proud of the Prince George community. Once this was announced that we were hosting the FIFA World Cup, I just felt that everyone came on board. People were reaching out to us to participate in these events and each time we talk about these events or what we were planning to do, people are excited to be a part of it.”

The other two watch parties are set for July 17th and 19th in the Canada Games Plaza.

The first one is will be called the Foodie Friday Soccer Spectacular, which will run from 4pm to 8pm.

“It is more of a warm up to see where everybody is feeling about the final game. That is more of an after work, let’s get excited for the big weekend kind of party.” said Bilodeau.

She added they are going to save the best for last during the World Cup Final two days later.

“We will start with the watch party, which will be a few hours and then after that we are going to have an après watch party, which is more of a cultural celebration and IMSS has helped us come on board, creating an uplifting and cultural experience for a few hours.”

In addition, three local bands will be featured that evening: Hey Day, Good Juju and Chris Goodwin Band.

The Downtown Prince George all-day bike valet service is also being set up in front of Canada Games Plaza to encourage people to ride to the festivities.

The World Cup final game is set for East Rutherford, New Jersey, beginning at Noon Pacific Time.

Lastly, Tourism Prince George and Love Local Events Street Market will be present from 5-9 p.m., prior to the city’s first-ever drone show at about 10 p.m.

Earlier this year, the city successfully obtained a $50,000 Community Event Support Fund grant from the province to pay the tab for a series of FIFA World Cup celebrations.
