Police in Prince George made 40 arrests as part of a Boost and Bust project with several local retailers.
At the start of this month (July), the Prince George RCMP’s Problem Oriented Policing (POP) team partnered with retailers in Pine Centre Mall, Parkwood Mall, Walmart and Superstore to target ongoing commercial crimes affecting these stores.
In total, the POP team arrested 40 people and recovered over $3400 worth of product.
“The goal of the Boost and Bust projects is to assist retail outlets in Prince George that are feeling the effects of repeated theft by targeting shoplifters, with the assistance of the Loss Prevention Officers already working in these locations,” said Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer for the Prince George RCMP in a news release.
From there, the unit continued its proactive work within the community, conducting several traffic stops that resulted in further police action.
Investigators seized approximately 180 grams of illicit narcotics, suspected to be fentanyl, cocaine and methamphetamine, and aided in the recovery of an additional $5000 in stolen property.
In 2026, Boost and Bust projects resulted in approximately 60 arrests and the recovery of more than $5000 worth of merchandise.
