Hopefully a change does some good for Zac Funk.
On Monday, the Washington Capitals traded the former 67-goal scorer with the Prince George Cougars to the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for Tyler Kopff.
Funk toiled in the minors during the last two seasons split between the AHL’s Hershey Bears and the ECHL’s South Carolina Stingrays.
In 2025-26, the Coldstream product tallied nine goals and 10 assists in 23 games with South Carolina while also registering a pair of helpers in ten outings with Hershey.

Funk will go down as one of the best trade pickups in the Mark Lamb era after being acquired by the Calgary Hitmen in January of 2023.
The 22-year-old was a near point-per-game player for the remainder of the 2022-23 campaign, tallying 26 points in 31 games.

He also notched five goals and three assists in 10 playoff games.
Funk saved his best for last in 2023-24 with the Cougars setting franchise records in goals (67), points (123), power-play goals (31) and plus-minus (+56).
During the Cats run to the 2024 Western Conference Finals, Funk recorded eight goals and ten assists in 15 games.
The AHL affiliate for the Sabres is the Rochester Americans.
