RCMP launches new look cruiser across the country

The RCMP will be updating the look of their new frontline police vehicles, starting this summer.

Mounties say for the first time in more than 30 years, they will be changing the look of their vehicles, with the goal to improve visibility and to provide a modern, distinctive appearance.

The new design will feature white doors on a black base, along with high‑visibility, with reflective graphics. Police say the graphics are put on the cruiser to help ensure the vehicles can be easily recognized in all conditions, at any of time of day.

However, Provinces, territories, and municipalities across the country will be able to include local identifiers based on regional requirements.

Police added that with the new design, the distinctive markings will help them stand out from non-police vehicles. Officials say that with the change, concerns may raise about impersonation. Police say if you are ever unsure whether a vehicle or person is a legitimate RCMP police officer, you can call the local detachment to verify the car number, license plate, or police officer’s name or badge number.

The current vehicles will remain in service until they reach the criteria for fleet replacement, when that happens they will flip over to the newer design.

The new and existing vehicles will operate side‑by‑side during the transition period, Mounties add that this approach supports cost‑effective fleet replacement and ensures uninterrupted policing services.

“This new look prioritizes visibility and public safety. It ensures our vehicles are instantly recognizable as police – in any community and in any circumstance – while respecting the RCMP’s long-standing identity and proud history serving communities across the country,” said RCMP Commissioner Mike Duheme.

The new look will begin appearing on Canadian roads later this summer.
