City of PG welcoming 70 Mile evacuees to its emergency centre

Effective today (Monday), the City of Prince George activated the Emergency Social Services Centre (ESS) to support evacuees from the Thompson-Nicola Regional District.

Evacuees are expected to arrive in Prince George this afternoon from 70 Mile House following an evacuation order caused by the Pear Lake wildfire.

For the most up-to-date evacuation information for the Cariboo region, evacuees should visit the Thompson-Nicola Regional District website and the BC Government website.

The ESS Reception Centre is located at 4248 18 Avenue (between the horse paddocks and Ice Oval) and will be open from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. today.

It will remain activated daily while it is needed to support evacuees. Any changes in the hours will be communicated through the City’s website and social media channels. For information after-hours, evacuees can call 778-486-3409.

ESS provides short-term basic support to people impacted by disasters.

The program is financed by the provincial government and administered by Indigenous communities and local governments.

Resources provided can include information, hotel vouchers, and meal vouchers for those who have been evacuated.

Volunteers, supplies, and donations are not being requested at this time.

The City reminds residents to rely on and share information only from official government websites and social media pages. Official social media pages include:
