B.C. Conservation Officers issue 23 violation tickets during jet patrol, illegal wildfire blitz

Conservation officers in the north were busy on the water and in the brush.

During a four-day jet patrol in Williston Lake near Mackenzie, officers checked 36 boaters and issued four violation tickets along with locating a pair of unattended campfires.

Offences included:

  • Loaded firearms in a vessel
  • Use of prohibited gear (barbed and treble hooks) in streams
  • Open liquor in a public place
  • Open liquor in a vessel
  • Failure to have required safety equipment in a pleasure craft including: life jackets, sound signaling device, buoyant heaving line, and a water bailer
  • Failure to produce ID under the Wildlife Act

Over the weekend, conservation officers from several regions issued nearly $22,000 in fines due to illegal fires.

Officers say residents claiming they didn’t know about the fire ban is not an acceptable excuse to start an illegal blaze.
