Canfor Leisure Pool to close for maintenance and cleaning in August

Prince George will be down another pool for three weeks starting in mid-August.

The Canfor Leisure Pool (CLP) will be closing for regular maintenance, to ensure aquatic facilities are clean, safe and well-maintained.

With the Aquatic Centre currently closed for renovations, the City has condensed the work schedule to three weeks to minimize disruptions.

During the closure of the CLP, the pools will be drained, all areas of the facility will be deep cleaned, equipment will be inspected and repaired, and work will start on an HVAC improvement project.

“The City scheduled this work to take place during the end of summer, when there is a regular break in swimming lessons and local swim club use while having an abundance of outdoor activities to enjoy,” said Director of Civic Facilities and Events Andy Beesley. “We know that reducing pool availability isn’t welcome news, but annual maintenance is important work that must be done. City staff have worked hard to reduce the length of the closure from four weeks to three, which is the shortest amount of time possible for crews to complete this work. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to the pool on Labour Day.”

The pool is set to close on August 17, and is expected to reopen on Monday, September 7.
