A local account executive and community advocate is throwing his hat in the ring in October’s civic election in Prince George.
This morning (Wednesday), Jesi Janjua launched his campaign for a seat on City Council.
Janjua has experience in social services and youth programs with years of hands-on work across Northern B.C.’s core industrial sectors, including forestry, railway, heavy equipment, and commercial environmental services serving as the Territory Manager with GFL Environmental.
Janjua is also the Club Director and Membership Chair for the Downtown Rotary Club of Prince George.
”Prince George is my home—it’s where I was raised, where my wife Raylene and I have built our lives, and where my heart is,” said Janjua.
“Having worked everywhere from frontline community services to Northern B.C.’s industrial and commercial sectors, I know firsthand what makes our city thrive. I’m running for City Council to bring a practical, homegrown voice to City Hall—one that respects the taxpayer, protects our economic engine, and takes care of our people.”
General voting day is October 17th.
His campaign focuses will focus on four core priorities including:
Sensible Taxpayer Money Management & Transparency: Advocating for regular internal procurement audits to eliminate cost overruns, ensuring competitive contract bidding, and requiring clear ROI benchmarks for capital projects.
Streamlining Development & Permitting: Cutting red tape for local builders through pre-approved housing designs and strict review timelines (SLAs) to get residential and commercial projects built faster.
Prioritizing Core Infrastructure: Focusing municipal investments on road rehabilitation, snow clearing, and fundamental services before committing taxpayer dollars to expensive megaprojects.
Community Safety & Neighborhood Livability: Supporting proactive Bylaw enforcement, business corridor safety initiatives, and targeted backroad cleanup programs to keep neighborhoods clean and safe.
Janjua will be meeting with residents, business owners, and community organizations to listen to their priorities and share his vision for an accountable, forward-looking City Council.
In July, well-known financial advisor Dan McLaren announced his bid to run for city council.
In terms of the mayor’s race, two-term city councillor Kyle Sampson is gunning for the top job as is local lawyer Roy Stewart who placed third in the 2022 civic election.
Longtime city councillor Garth Frizzell is also holding an election announcement later today (Wednesday) at 1584 7th Avenue.
