Tourism P.G. receives GreenStep sustainable tourism bronze certification

Tourism Prince George was recognized for its path toward sustainable destination management, earning a bronze-level certification through GreenStep’s Sustainable Tourism program.

GreenStep said the certification process involved an evaluation centred around four key pillars of sustainability including environmental, socio-economic, natural and cultural, and destination management.

Tourism P.G. Executive Director Scott McWalter said the work to achieve the certification began over a year ago.

“Our goal is to make Prince George an even better place to visit, while helping make it an even better place to live through this certification.”

“The recognition really does strengthen our community’s reputation as a very forward looking destination.”

McWalter added there’s still more work to not only continue sustainability, but also achieve higher level certification.

He said this also gives an opportunity for the City to demonstrate leadership in sustainable destination management for northern B.C. and beyond.
